There’s no denying it – weight loss can be a long and challenging journey. Food is everywhere. You try to avoid eating this or to do that particular exercise program, but it doesn’t work. It gets frustrating trying to figure out what to do to achieve your goals. However, it is not unusual for people to struggle with weight loss. It’s easy to diet, overeat, feel guilty, and start all over again. It’s incredibly hard to break the cycle.
That’s where hypnosis comes in.
While diets and various exercise plans focus on what to eat or how to exercise, hypnosis helps you change the way you think and feel about your eating habits. For example, maybe your cravings get in the way of making good choices for yourself. With hypnosis, you can learn to enjoy the vegetable while not giving the cake a second thought.
Our goal is to help you gain control over whatever underlying issue is getting in your way of getting healthier. We change the focus from what you are eating, to your associations with food. Maybe you stress eat. Or maybe you associate eating out with socializing. Whatever it is, we target the unconscious mind with suggestions to change our negative or unhealthy thought patterns.
In all reality you already have all the tools you need to succeed. While you may need to change a part of your lifestyle, you do not need the latest fad diet or exercise machine to do so. All you need is a bit of guidance to change the negative thought patterns and habits that are holding you back.
We all know it is important to keep our bodies healthy. Did you know that the mind is a big part of that? It is so easy to become depressed or down when a diet or exercise plan doesn’t work out the way we planned. As a society, we try diet pills, fad weight loss diets, and grueling exercise programs in an attempt to try to get down to our desired weight. The result is often unsustainable and leaves us wondering what we did wrong.
The problem is that these “weight loss” ideas don’t work long term. You have to change the habits that keep bringing you back to the cycle of negative behaviors. It is not easy. All of those sugary, starchy and unhealthy foods taste good, making it hard to stay motivated to exercise. However, it can be done. We just need to recondition the mind to have healthier associations.
We all struggle with weight loss for different reasons:
We constantly hear that processed foods and sugar are bad for us. It’s true, but very seldom do we discuss why. We talk about diabetes and obesity, but that is really just the tip of the ice burg. If you look at every country that has introduced processed foods into their diet you discover one simple fact. It takes a few years, but they get sick. It isn’t genetic, though it is often chronic. Until they change their diet that is. If you are struggling with weight loss it may not hurt to consult a dietitian. As hypnotist, nutrition is not our specialty, but we do have some information here to help guide you towards deciding whether or not hypnosis, a dietitian, or both are good options in your health journey.
We are often confused about what this means. It doesn’t mean that a natural food has been ground up or used in something else. When foods have been chemically processed and made solely from refined ingredients and artificial substances, they are processed food. These “foods” if one can call them that are often full of sugar (and other additives) with very little nutritional benefit. In addition, food manufacturers spend massive amounts of resources on making their foods as “rewarding” as possible to the brain, which leads to over-consumption.
If you look at the ingredients label for a processed, packaged food, chances are that you won’t have a clue what some of the ingredients are. That’s because many of the ingredients in there aren’t actual food… they are artificial chemicals that are added for various purposes. There are preservatives to keep it from rotting. Colorants and texturants to change those elements. Finally flavor additives to give something a particular taste.
Our bodies are designed to seek out sugar and fat. Foods that were once scarce in our diet. The truth is that evolution hasn’t caught up. All of these new man made chemicals trick our bodies into thinking that its getting what it needs. In really it often needs more nutrients and vitamins. Our poor diet, more particularly sugar, has even been linked to declines in child intelligence, Alzheimer’s and Cancer.
Worse yet we are finding out now that sugar is a really highly addictive substance with its own slew of health issues associated with it. If you read a food label you’ll realize that the fewer processed foods you are eating, the less of these chemicals you are imbibing.
Many addiction centers are now offering treatment. Many of us rely on sugar to help deal with emotions or struggles in our lives. It is a common story that many, if not all of us, have heard. Sugar in moderation is not harmful. It is very hard not to overdo it though. Many of us eat entirely too much sugar. In fact it is estimated that at least 75% of Americans eat excess amounts of sugar. Among those, many could be classified as having a sugar addiction. The concept is so new, that we don’t even really know how many people are affected by sugar addiction.
We know why this happens though. Sugar consumption creates a short-term high energy reaction. It has been suggested that sugar is as addictive as cocaine. It releases dopamine into the system and while that may feel nice it comes with a wide variety of health risks. In particular it is an additional risk for people with depression, anxiety, and stress, and pain.

Sugar contributes to many diseases and disorders. The image to the right shows several. Below are a few more with some links to the evidence connecting them to this addictive substance.
