Hypnotic Gastric Bypass
Most hypnotists aims the hypnotic gastric band at anyone who has 30 or more pounds to lose. The length of sessions varies from hypnotist to hypnotist. Some claiming they can do it in as few as two. Others claiming it takes at least 6 sessions or more. It is a program that many hypnotist claims can dramatically change a person’s eating habits personally. To lower their BMI and increase both their health and fitness.
Who’s Suitable?
Who is a good candidate for a hypnotic gastric band over a real one? Well, to put it simply, many hypnotists still use this method with caution. One is quoted saying:
“I don’t believe it’s a good idea to make the subconscious believe a client is obese when they’re not,”
Which is very true. Nor would an ethical hypnotist choose this method first over other interventions if the individual is only slightly overweight. In those instances, it is far better to simply address any contributing factors and employ a regular weight loss session. Many hypnotists views the hypnotic gastric bypass as an option under the following circumstances.
- The client already has been told they need the procedure but cannot afford it.
- The client needs the procedure and is too high a risk for the surgery.
- The hypnotist has done every other method of hypnotic intervention available to weight loss.
- The individual has a good imagination and an open mind.
How does it work?
It starts with a conversation with the hypnotist. They talk about eating habits and what a typical day of eating looks like for the client. Discussing everything that goes into their mouth on a given day. The hypnotist will also ask a bit more about their history including what may have caused the weight gain and other struggles the client may have had with weight in the past.
This allows the hypnotist to tailor an individualized plan for the client. Once we have a baseline the initial session involves inducing the sensations of having the real procedure, step by step. Similar to a guided meditation. You may wonder how imagining this could result in actual weight loss. The rationale is that the power of the method is the patient’s subconscious belief that they have been through such a procedure.
Imagination
The imagination is invoked in such a way that the feelings and sensations become vivid. What we are really doing is getting the subconscious’s permission to enact change. To get it on board, resulting in natural weight loss. It is in part belief (or placebo) and in part working with the unconscious to change thoughts, patterns, beliefs, actions, and behaviors.
Long Term Success
Long term success takes more than that, however. In addition to the sensations, we have to identify what triggers the problem. Is it a diet issue? Meaning they need associated dietary assistance. Or are there particular stresses, anxieties, or emotional factors that set off the undesired behaviors. What bad habits such as binge eating, or not exercising are contributing to the problem? Or are there past traumas that also need to be addressed? Ultimately, it is the hypnotist’s job to help the client regain control of their actions and thoughts so that they can maintain this change for life.
Concerns About Real Surgeries
With a real gastric band, there is a lot of stress put on the client. Not only physical, but also mental, emotional, and financial. It is a serious operation with some risk. The more overweight you are the more risk it carries. Your stomach is reduced and rapid weight loss often leads to excess skin, requiring further operations. Putting your body under more stress.
With hypnotic gastric bypass, a few things are different. Not only do you meet with your hypnotist as many times as you feel you need to address your issues, but you also are working directly with the unconscious. Changing thoughts and patterns of behavior to effect life long change. When you address your mental state it affects your physical. Not to mention that the hypnotic version will cost less in the long run.
The idea of this process is to use the imagination to make it real. A hypnotist in New York says that many of his clients come out with feelings of being anesthetized. Some have even come back to him over the years to tighten or loosen their hypnotic band. This helps in maintaining their weight, should they require it. More importantly, he describes his client’s reactions as feeling free. No longer trapped in their past experiences, but living in the present moment with a happier, healthier mind and body.
Everyone can lose weight. Some people need additional help. What that additional help looks like can vary from person to person. Some need that physical sensation. Some are not eligible for the program due to real physical concerns and other reasons.
Other solutions
Not everyone wants to try a hypnotic gastric band. And that’s okay. At Hypnotic News via Hoosier Hypnosis we just like to let everyone know what is out there and possible. A hypnotic gastric band should only be an option once other options have been exhausted….just like a real gastric band.
However, there are other ways a hypnotist can support your weight loss journey. Like helping you look at solutions that address the situation holistically. Many, if not most cases of being overweight have a psychological root. Maybe you eat for comfort due to stress. Or it could be a lack of understanding of food choices.
If you can determine the underlying psychological desire or reason for that habit (and change it), the weight often drops off. These are lasting changes and not quick fixes. Which is better for your health in the long run. No one wants to yo-yo diet for the rest of their life.
No guarantees
Whilst impressive claims have been made about the virtual gastric band procedure, it is important to remember that this treatment is no guarantee of weight loss. A study by Hull York Medical School in 2016 showed no significant difference between the results achieved by relaxation hypnotherapy and the virtual gastric band.
Hypnosis can effect real change, but it is not a magic cure-all. Even if you get a hypnotic gastric band, you’re still going to have to apply with proper nutrition and exercise. And you’re going to have to face those underlying factors causing the weight gain.
It’s also important to note that even the physical gastric bands are not guaranteed to work. Patients who don’t address their eating issues often find ways around the physical limitations of the band. It’s just like we tell our clients. If you aren’t really ready to make the change, you won’t. This is a part of the reason why a good hypnotist talks extensively with a client not only before a session but on the initial phone call in. Often we can tell who is ready to make that change and who is not.
