Body language….we all use it. Many times without even knowing it. It’s the way you know someone is shocked to see you or mad at you. It’s the reason we sometimes miss the context in emails or texts. It shapes how people view us and even how we view ourselves.
In this Ted Talk Amy Cuddy talks about the importance of body language. Particularly why it is so important. With a bit of humor and a lot of practical information you too can modify your body language, affecting how you think.
Take A Moment
Take an inventory of your body language right now. Notice how you are sitting, breathing, what you can tell of your facial expressions. Now note how each of these things makes you feel. Find yourself hunched over? Maybe you are tired or burned out. If your lips feel stretched into a smile you may feel fake.
If you can sense it during this exercise….other people have probably been sensing it for a while.
You Can Change This
Now just change your posture. Sit up straight. Think of something that makes you smile. Really smile. Imagine someone you admire. Someone who has those qualities you want to have and model your body language after them.
It takes a bit of work. Maybe some practice, but you’ll start to notice a difference.
Can Hypnosis Correct Body Language?
Of course, it can. Or it can at least help. If changing your body language by itself is not enough to change your behavior then you may need a bit more help. While we can often begin to change our outlook with a change in posture, there are other struggles that can keep you down. Maybe you are bogged down with a persistent negative thought. Or you may be stressed, anxious, or have some other unmet need within yourself.
